Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya is located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula. It stretches 100 miles along the Caribbean coastline, starting just south of Cancun and extending all the way down to the Mayan Ruins in Tulum, with the colorful town of Playa del Carmen right in the middle. This coastline is most historically known for its Mayan past. The pre-Hispanic civilization lived throughout this region and the impressive archaeological ruins remain a popular tourist attraction today including Tulum and Chichen Itza.

Riviera Maya is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico and draws in a large numbers of visitors looking to kick back and relax. This area is widely sought out for its spectacular white sand beaches, warm turquoise waters, incredible theme parks, luxurious all-inclusive resorts, and world class spas. The 700-mile-long Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, also known as the Mayan Reef, lies just off the coast and provides easy access to a host of underwater adventures.

Exploring and discovering the amazing Riviera Maya is easy, because there is one well-paved road called the Carretera 307 that runs from North to South all the way down to the border of Belize. This well traveled road is lined with majestic gates marking the entrance to an abundance of all-inclusive resorts as well as smaller boutique hotels perched on the idyllic sandy beaches. The most popular attractions in this region include cenotes (natural water-filled sinkholes), the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza, eco-tourism parks including Xcaret and Xel-Ha, and snorkeling along the expansive barrier coral reef.
