Cozumel is a charming teardrop-shaped island located in the Mexican Caribbean only 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It can be found south east of Cancun and due east of Playa Del Carmen. Although it is the largest and most populated island in Mexico, it is relatively small at just 29 miles long and 12 miles wide. Although it has experienced growth, it still maintains its local charm and Mayan Heritage. Cozumel is best known throughout the world as a premier diving and snorkeling destination. It has the second largest reef in the world and there are at least 100 dives sites within 3 miles of the island. At least a dozen of them are shallow enough for snorkeling. Non-divers will find plenty of other options to enjoy such as snorkeling tours, fishing, swimming with the dolphins, going on a catamaran tour or just relaxing on the beach. The islands’ main town is San Miguel and it offers dining, clubbing and shopping. Cozumel is the perfect choice for anyone who loves diving or snorkeling, or who just wants to enjoy a relaxed vacation experience in a tropical paradise.
